Stark Library’s Early Literacy in the Spotlight

Stark Library is working hard to ensure children begin school READY TO LEARN – and News Channel 5 is taking notice. Last week, a news crew came to our main library to spend time with families forming a strong foundation for literacy through our programs, and boy, have these children grown!

Library Director of Community Services Marianna DiGiacomo and Literacy Manager Julia Shaheen talked about some of their favorite literacy tips and popular library programs.

We are so proud to share this story with you, opens a new window.

Library Literacy – Excellent Staff & Resources

Our expert staff provides so much to families, beyond what a lot of people realize.

Always remember that reading with your kids is one of the best ways to set them up for success. We love to celebrate the milestone of reaching 1000 Books before kindergarten.  Parents begin with their children as babies, reading to them on their laps. It is amazing how quickly time goes!

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library

Each child under the age of five in Stark County can receive a book every month FREE through Dolly Parton's Imagination Library.

Stark Library is the DPIL’s affiliate locally, administering this very worthy program that continues to grow!

Children love having their library cards!

Kids take pride in having their very own library cards, opening the world of books, Storytime, Playaway Book packs and so much more! It only takes a few minutes for you to apply. Your child will receive a card on the spot that they can proudly show, in their name, just like four-year-old Silas.

We love supporting your efforts with your children – and taking them even farther. Step through the doors of any of our ten branches or bookmobiles and your children will begin holding their heads a little higher, as they proudly advance on the road to literacy. With each book they open and each program they attend, they begin forming excellent habits that will last a lifetime. You can write - and read - a bright future ahead for free at your Stark Library.
