March is Disability Awareness Month at Stark Library

March is Disability Awareness Month, a time to recognize the contributions, experiences, and leadership of people with disabilities — and to continue building a community where everyone belongs. At Stark Library, accessibility is not an add-on. It’s part of our mission to serve every resident of Stark County with dignity, equity, and opportunity.

Why Disability Awareness Matters

More than one in four adults in the United States lives with a disability. Disability is a natural part of the human experience — and it can be visible or invisible, permanent or temporary. Disability Awareness Month encourages all of us to:

  • Challenge stereotypes
  • Promote inclusion
  • Remove barriers
  • Amplify disabled voices

It’s about shifting the conversation from limitations to access, from assumptions to understanding.

Accessibility at Stark Library

We are committed to making our spaces, services, and resources welcoming and usable for all. Some of the ways we support accessibility include:

  • Accessible facilities across our locations
  • Adaptive technology and assistive devices
  • Large print books, audiobooks, and digital formats
  • Closed captioning and accessible program options
  • Outreach services for individuals who cannot visit in person

You can explore a full list of accessibility services by selecting Accessibility under the Use the Library menu at StarkLibrary.org/Accessibility. At Stark Library, our commitment to accessibility extends far beyond one month. We will continue working to remove barriers, listen to community feedback, and ensure our services evolve to meet the needs of all Stark County residents.
