Pride Month

Open to All

As a Public Library, we’re committed to providing a welcoming atmosphere for all people. Whether you’re a member of the LGBTQ+ community celebrating the freedom to be yourself, an ally, or someone who wants to understand more, we invite you to join us at the Library.

Pride History

Pride Month honors the historic events at the Stonewall Inn in New York City in 1969 when Americans demanded equal justice for the gay community. Traditionally, the last Sunday in June was celebrated as “Gay Pride Day,” but it eventually grew to a month-long observance. Pride month was federally recognized beginning in 1999.

Events for All

We have events all month long to learn, create, and connect. Whether you choose to join a book club discussion, educate yourself about LGBTQ+ artists, create buttons to show you’re an ally, or learn about identities, please join our effort to create a welcoming place for all individuals in our community.

Pride Events

Reading List

We invite you to explore a PRIDE list curated by our own librarians, with titles written by and about LGBTQ+ individuals. Explore books, movies, and more celebrating our rich diversity. It is our hope that our collection represents all individuals in our community. The more we learn and understand each other, the more we can grow. Together, we can create a Library and society that is truly open to all.

We take Pride in welcoming All

Explore the contributions of the LGBTQ+ community during PRIDE month with a list created by our own librarians.

Want More?

If you feel there is something that Stark Library could do to create a more inclusive space for you to learn, we appreciate you letting us know.  It is our goal to make sure every patron of Stark Library feels safe, welcome, and represented.  If there is an author, book, or any other material that you had hoped we would have but do not, let us know! Our collection is always evolving to best suit our community’s needs and we would be happy to look into adding the materials that you love.
