Historic Clearview Golf Club Community Book Celebration
Featuring Twice as Good by Rich Michelson and Eric Velasquez

Thursday, February 2 • Walsh University
Walsh University Celebrates Black History: Understanding Social Justice through Children's Literature, at Walsh University Barrette Business and Community Center. Rich Michelson’s talk is free and open to all, followed by a reception and book signing.
10:30-11:30 am
Walsh students will partner with 40 Allen Elementary 4th graders for the author's first scheduled public reading of Twice as Good. 20 Walsh students will interact in Oliveri Tower Lounge with the visitors and with the author and PGA/LPGA professional Renee Powell, daughter of Clearview Golf Club founder William Powell. This event is open to all and is a good opportunity for home-schoolers as well, especially 3rd - 5th graders.
11:30 am
Visiting Students - Lunch.
12:15-1:30 pm
First Tee: Allen Elementary 4th Graders receive golf tips with PGA/LPGA professional Renee Powell, the Walsh Golf Team and Coach in the Alumni Arena.
1:15 pm — 2:45 pm
Author Richard Michelson will meet in an Open Class with Dr. Michelle Lenarz's EDU 354, discussing "Inside and Outside Multicultural Authoring." This distinctly autobiographical talk will examine the author's roots and challenges in exploring multicultural literacy through children's books.
5:30 pm
Dinner.
7:30 pm
In the Barrette Business and Community Center, a talk by award-winning author Richard Michelson will be free and open to all: Understanding Social Justice Through Children's Literature. Reception and book signing afterward with Michelson, illustrator Eric Velaquez, and Renee Powell. Sales of the book benefit the Clearview Legacy Foundation, headed by Renee Powell.
Friday, February 3
10:00 am — 3:00 pm
Stark County District Library presents Rich Michelson and Eric Velasquez at Belden and East Canton Elementary schools.
5:30 pm — 6:30 pm
The Canton Museum of Art presents Eric Velasquez artwork in the Wilkof Courtyard, as well as a book sale and signing.
Saturday, February 4 • Black History Month Tee Off @ the Library
10:00 am
All Ages: Meet Rich Michelson and Eric Velasquez, author and illustrator of Twice as Good, and meet PGA/LPGA professional Renee Powell. Join us for indoor putt-putt golf and other fun golf activities. Books will be available for purchase and signing. Proceeds will benefit the Clearview Legacy Foundation.
