Project Support

The Foundation's financial endowment will be used to support library efforts and projects. The key areas of support which have been identified by the Stark County District Library Foundation Board of Trustees are:

Literacy
The Stark County District Library and library Foundation envision a community of life-long learners in Stark County. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has drafted the following definition: "Literacy" is the ability to identify, understand, interpret, create, communicate, compute and use printed and written materials associated with varying contexts. Literacy involves a continuum of learning to enable an individual to achieve his or her goals, to develop his or her knowledge and potential, and to participate fully in the wider society." The support of the Foundation will help us to build a more literate community.
Programming
The library provides a range of programs from Story Times for the very young to Outreach programs at nursing homes and senior centers for those not-so-young. These programs and events are essential to the library's mission; they inspire ideas and enrich lives by introducing attendees to new concepts, places, and ideas and they create community by bringing us together under one roof. The support of the library's programming efforts is a key element of the Foundations's plan.
Services
Thomas Jefferson said, "A democratic society depends upon an informed and educated citizenry." In the 21st Century, the library's essential mission is unchanged - providing access to information. What has changed are the access points. Today's Stark County District Library offers the Internet, reaches out through its website and its online catalog, and provides downloadable eBooks and Reference Databases - library services which don't require entering the library. Bookmobiles travel to communities and schools that don't have a library, and provide free access to books and information. The Foundation will work with the library to assure that all citizens of Stark County continue to have library services.
Capital Projects
The Stark County District Library has 10 locations throughout Stark County, each of which reflect the community character. The Foundation's endowment may aid in building, remodeling, and maintaining these wonderful community spaces.
