Stark County District Library has proudly served Canton and the surrounding community since 1884. It has operated using funding from the State of Ohio and recently local real estate property taxes. But public dollars are not infinite or limitless. In 2006, it was determined that a Library Foundation would be the most beneficial way to ensure the future stability and excellence of the Stark County District Library.

The Stark County District Library Foundation was created to raise funds and support the efforts of the Stark County District Library. It is managed by a Board of Directors comprised of community leaders who serve three-year terms and can be re-appointed.

As a separate nonprofit entity, the Foundation will greatly expand the Library's fundraising efforts, and will ensure that the Library can more easily accept specialized contributions, such as estate gifts. Additionally, the Foundation will keep any donated funds separate from tax-generated funds. With emphasis on higher fundraising visibility, the Foundation hopes to encourage more donors to contribute to the Library's long-term systemwide goals and needs.

The library Foundation is committed to supporting projects in Literacy, Programming, Services, and Capital Projects.
